Research Assistant Professor in Genomics and Transcriptomics
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is inviting applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position as a Research Assistant Professor in Genomics and Transcriptomics. The successful candidate will oversee the genomics section of the Genetics and Genomics Unit, participate in collaborative research, secure extramural funding, and contribute to the training of students and staff in genomics-related areas.

Responsibilities
Oversee the genomics section of the state-of-the-art Genetics and Genomics Unit within the Department of Biological Sciences
Participate in collaborative research programs across the Colleges of Science, Health Sciences, Engineering, and the School of Pharmacy
Secure extramural funding independently or collaboratively
Publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals
Contribute to the training of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and technical staff
Conduct workshops and training sessions in genomics, proteomics, and related omics data analysis
Qualification
Required
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in a relevant field and have a minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience
Applicants must demonstrate a strong record of research productivity and a clear potential to secure external funding
Experience writing or contributing to research grants, instrumentation grants, or collaborative proposals
Demonstrated success in collaborative research and peer-reviewed publications
Ability to work effectively within diverse, multidisciplinary teams of faculty, staff, and students from varied ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Commitment to involving students in research, mentoring, and publication opportunities
Expertise in DNA and RNA extraction from cells, tissues, and blood
Expertise in genome and exome sequencing analysis
Expertise in bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing analysis
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R for data analysis, modeling, and visualization
Expertise in data processing and analysis using HPC and Galaxy platform and familiarity with widely used, and field standard software, webtools and packages, including HISAT2, Salmon, Rsubred, DESeq2, etc
Application of advanced statistical modeling and bioinformatics tools for comprehensive multi-omics data integration and interpretation
Compliance, safety, and regulatory knowledge
Knowledge of laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, and data integrity standards (e.g., QA/QC practices)
Preferred
Experience in analyzing proteomic, metabolomic, lipidomic, and glycomic data is not required but will be considered a preferred skill set
Functional genetics (CRISPR, CRISPR screen, si/shRNA, transfection, transduction) skills will be preferred
Experience with core facility management: Oversight of day-to-day core operations, user training, scheduling, and service coordination
Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality-control workflows
Maintenance and troubleshooting of core instrumentation
Instrument method development & optimization: Ability to develop, optimize, and validate sequencing methods will be preferred
Strong communication & reporting skills: Core users and collaborators depend on reporting and documentation
Ability to generate clear reports, SOPs, training materials, workflows, and user documentation
Successful teaching experience at the university/community college level
