Research Assistant

Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation of undergraduate laboratories and graduate research projects related to steel, concrete, wood masonry, and composite materials
Operate the following tools and equipment: horizontal band saw, milling machine, drill press, annular cutter, circular saw, compound miter saw, concrete/brick saw, angle grinder, concrete vibrator, concrete mixer, and others
Operation of the SETRL overhead crane may also be part of the daily tasks, after appropriate OSHA training conducted by VU Environmental Health and Safety
Work independently and together with graduate students, faculty and staff
Aid in the organization and collection of data, general lab maintenance, and cleanup activities
Gain hands on knowledge of structural engineering materials and construction practices
Qualification
Required
Individual must be detail-oriented with the ability to follow instructions
Able to work well both independently and as part of a team
Have critical thinking skills in order to work safely in the lab and field
Must be 18 years of age or older
