Responsibilities

Examine the maintenance work of repairs, rebuilds or overhauls of fire control and optics equipment and supporting items
Diagnose the source of trouble and determine the extent of repairs required
Inspect work in progress; inspect and test the final product and approve the repairs
Perform major repairs on foreign and domestic standard and non-standard fire control/optics items
Read and understand blueprint drawings and work from those drawings
Perform as primary instructor on most standard and non-standard fire control systems
Prepare reports, information papers and other documents
Performs field maintenance on laser range finders, ballistic computers, laser observation devices, laser designators, thermal imaging systems, periscopes, telescopes, auxiliary sights, aiming circles, image transfer assemblies, quadrants, mount assemblies, fire control support equipment, night vision devices, and test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE)
Provides technical guidance on how to diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in fire control systems and related equipment at the field maintenance level
Determines the nature and extent of repairs required; disassembles and examines parts and assemblies for serviceability; replaces parts and assemblies as required
Determines serviceability of parts; exercises initiative to maintain productive progress and accepts responsibility for the results
Diagnoses and determines remedies for failures commonly encountered in the repair of fire control equipment with little or no supervision, using a variety of diagnostic techniques and practices
Performs initial, in-process and final inspections
Perform ECOD and ACOD inspections and verifies condition codes
Determines root causes of non-conformances, take corrective action and provides feedback on systemic problems
Performs routine inspections on safety and environmental controls and provides reports on safety, quality, and armament related issues

Required

Must be trained or have 8 years' experience in weapon fire control and optics
High school diploma or GED and some technical training/college are required
Requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent experience
Must be certified in accordance with an accredited military or civilian training program
Must be knowledgeable in working with all types of fire control/optics and components
Must possess excellent knowledge of fire control and optics items and electronic tools and procedures and possesses moderate knowledge of electronics operating principles
Must be able to secure and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC), within six months of employment
Must possess a valid driver's license
Experience: Eight (8) years of experience is required
Requires computer literacy
Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction
Able to effectively operate safely in a high-pressure work environment
