Grant and Finance Analyst

Responsibilities
Lead the submission of Contract & Grant (C&G) proposals from all prospective sponsors including but not limited to the federal government, private foundations, and for-profit entities
Develop research proposals, specifically the budget, budget justification, and supporting documentation, related to the pre-award submission process
Maintain C&G records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies
Serve as the subject matter expert of the department and be responsible for all of the proposal submissions for the Department of Physics and Astronomy, including NASA, JPL, and DoD proposals
Analyze financial information or reports that require review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, etc)
Independently develop research proposals or awards
Work on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations
Advise on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards, task budgets, and option years
Qualification
Required
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment
Thorough knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques, as well as finance policies, practices, and systems
Ability to manage significant volume of transactions and adapt to changing priorities
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports
Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles
Skills to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus personnel
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor guidelines
Ability to comprehend concepts and mission of the position, and initiative to create, recommend, and implement innovative policies and procedures to best satisfy those goals efficiently with team members and supervisors
Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail
Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment
Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
3-5 years Contracts and grants pre-award experience
Preferred
Knowledge of School and Department practices, relevant UC and department structure, policies, and procedures
