Responsibilities
The purpose of this position is to lead subordinate mechanics in the repairing, inspecting, operating, servicing, troubleshooting and maintaining building mechanical equipment, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation and heating systems, and necessary action to restore any electrical, plumbing or control (BAS) systems when an emergency breakdown occurs
The work leader conducts training sessions, which are intended to update, improve and upgrade the knowledge, skills and abilities of the mechanics he oversees and leads. He shows subordinate mechanics proper trade techniques and practices, safety precautions, how to properly use the machinery, instruments and equipment
The incumbent maintains a current knowledge of the National Mechanical and Plumbing Code, Operations Department Policies, Procedures, Directives and written instructions, which are required to answer questions from the electricians he is leading and overseeing
Ability to use and properly operate Ohm, Amp, Watt, and Voltage meters; measuring instruments and testing equipment such as flowmeters, recording meters, micrometers, psychrometer, velometers, and electronic leak detectors
Ability to read and interpret blueprints; equipment diagrams; electrical schematics; water flow charts; and specifications regarding servicing and operation of the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
Knowledge and ability to perform preventative maintenance on electric heaters; contactors; magnetic starters, and electric motors 50 HP and smaller
Responsible for the estimating, researching, and identification of all materials, labor and tooling required to perform assigned task
