Customs Entry Writer

The Customs Entry Writer is responsible for the accurate and timely submission of customs entries for clearance through U.S. Customs and Border Protection, ensuring compliance and facilitating the classification of products and tariff determinations.

Responsibilities
Serve as a customer advocate, committed to providing excellent levels of customer service and strong sense of accountability and urgency
Accurately classify products with the appropriate HTS code
Determine relevant duties and tariffs based upon valuation of goods using available government resources
Promptly prepare and submit all required government forms and customs entries in compliance with regulations
Prepares and executes billings for entry related services
Monitor shipments as they move through customs to ensure compliance at every stage. Report and resolve issues, delays and customs holds to minimize service charges
Works with transportation agents, Customs Border Patrol (CBP) and others to resolve rejections and requests for information pertaining to custom entries. Makes corrections and updates to entries as necessary
Handle customs correspondence post entry process and any other related clearance details/information
Stays up-to-date on all customs procedure, rules and regulatory changes

Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED; Degree in related field of study or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred
Must possess and maintain a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) certification and/or US Customs Broker license or have the ability to obtain either within 1 year of employment
2+ years' experience in processing customs entries and declarations
Knowledge and understanding of customs brokerage operations, U.S. Customs regulations, trade procedures, customs clearance activities, filing customs entries, HTS and tariff classifications, valuations, and Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements
Ability to handle processing of customs entries within strict time constraints while maintaining a high-level of attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to problem-solve and manage transactional customer situations promptly and professionally while achieving commitments for service and assistance
Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with and present to both internal and external business partners
Ability to multitask and shift focus in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities, meet deadlines, work well under pressure, prioritize work and maintain discretion on confidential matters while maintaining a positive attitude and providing unmatched customer service
Proficient in utilizing various technology platforms, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and video conferencing tools (WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
Preferred
Experience using CargoWise Customs & Compliance software a plus
Involvement using the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) portal and the Automated Broker Interface (ABI) a plus
