SUPV FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST

Responsibilities
You will direct firefighting operations as the Installation Fire Prevention Chief for Commander Navy Region Japan (CNRJ) and Fire and Emergency Services (F and ES)
You will assist, advise, and provide recommendations concerning fire protection matters to all levels of command within the areas where fire protection services are provided
You will develop long range plans for facilities, manpower and material resources, training programs, prevention and suppression techniques
You will supervises and implements an effective fire prevention program, through inspections, training, and enforcement of fire regulations
You will assign Fire Prevention Inspectors to ensure that maximum efficiency and utilization of inspector resources are met
You will control and direct expenditures of allotted funds through formal requisition processes
Qualification
Required
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level
Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements
Candidates for firefighter positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
This is an overseas position. You will be subject to and must be able to satisfy the overseas requirements
If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport
May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations
You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics
This is a Mission Essential position
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: experience implementing and supervising the functions of an effective fire prevention program, through inspections, training and enforcement of fire regulations
This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: DoD certifications Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector III, Fire Instructor II, and HazMat Incident Command
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license and successful completion of an Emergency Vehicle Operator Course
Work requires an annual physical
Work requires participation in a physical fitness program
Incumbent will be required to work a 60 hour work week with eating and sleeping facilities provided in accordance with general fire fighting practices
You are required to lift up to 50 pounds, walking 2-4 hours daily, occasional climbing and maintaining mental alertness, self-control and emotional stability to carry out the duties of this position
