The State of Hawaiʻi is seeking a Purchasing Specialist VI to work in the Department of Accounting & General Services, State Procurement Office. This role involves supervising staff and managing the purchasing of various goods and services for State departments, ensuring compliance with formal purchasing methods.

Responsibilities

Perform the purchasing of a wide variety of goods and services for departments throughout the State government
Use formal purchasing methods which require the development of detailed, technical specifications; preparation of contracts for common use commodities; and the establishment of price lists for these items for use by all State agencies
Supervise a staff of specialists performing and developing a wide variety of specifications for formal purchasing requirements in the State's centralized purchasing program and perform other related duties as assigned

Required

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States
Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
Specialized Experience: Four and one-half years of progressively responsible work experience in purchasing which involved working with users, vendors, contractors and service providers in identifying, clarifying and specifying requirements of products or scope of work for services to be performed; included drafting specifications for various methods of procurement and/or updating such specifications to ensure their currency and applicability; demonstrated an understanding and use of common purchasing resources
Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. This requirement will be considered to have been met by strong affirmative evidence of the necessary supervisory abilities and/or potential
