Principal Systems Analyst-RiverLine-Light Rail
NJ TRANSIT is transforming the third-largest transportation agency in North America and is looking for a Principal Systems Analyst to provide strategic technical leadership for Light Rail IT systems. The role involves collaborating with vendors, managing project delivery, and ensuring alignment between IT capabilities and operational needs while driving process improvements and enhancing application utilization.

Responsibilities
Provides application development and programming support for the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of Light Rail IT systems, with a focus on recommending and executing system improvements
Maintains and documents system configurations; performs routine evaluations to ensure optimal performance and alignment with Light Rail operational needs
Designs, tests, and deploys upgrades for River Line, Newark, and HBLR systems; recommends hardware and software modifications to improve system functionality and reliability
Develops complex data queries and reporting solutions to support operational and managerial decision-making; delivers presentations and training to users and leadership
Creates and maintains operational documentation, including job stream instructions, automated reporting schedules, backup procedures, and change management protocols
Provides first-level technical support and coordinates with users, vendors, and corporate IT teams to ensure the availability and performance of hardware, software, LAN/WAN, and telephony systems
Bench-tests emerging technologies to evaluate their readiness for integration or future migration into production environments
Demonstrates deep technical knowledge of assigned systems and a strong understanding of the operational context and user requirements
Designs and delivers user training programs to enhance system adoption and improve operational efficiency
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in computer systems, Business Analytics, or a comparable field. (One year of closely related work experience can be substituted for each year of education)
6 years of experience as a Project Lead handling complex and integrated system deployment
6 years in one or more of the following technologies is required: GitHub, Jira, Azure Pipelines, VS Code, Boomi, Control-M, node, AWS
6 Years of experience in one or more of the following technologies more of the below programming languages: .NET C#/VB, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, PowerShell, SQL
Essential: Hands-on technical experience on Object-Oriented GUI and Web Development (C# and VB,.net), Crystal Reporting, Team Foundation Server, and Database and PL/SQL programming in Oracle environment
Proficient in enterprise system deployment using CI/CD pipelines
Ability to lead a project from initiation through delivery and implementation; ability to determine: time estimates, build project plans, identify and track issues, risks, action items and resolutions
Excellent organizational, time management, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and communications skills
Demonstrated proficiency with business intelligence tools, reporting and end user report delivery required
Demonstrated initiative, dependability, and ability to work with minimal supervision and imparts a strong sense of urgency
Familiarity with multi-platform application environments both cloud and on premise
Effective verbal and written communication skills for formal and informal reporting
Applies Agile programming methodologies to support iterative development, continuous integration, and cross-functional collaboration across Light Rail IT initiatives
Preferred
PMP certification is preferred
Knowledge of transportation systems and enterprise deployment is desired
Knowledge of Asset Management is a plus
