Responsibilities
Promotes travel and tourism through sports tournaments, promotes facility use and rentals
Plans, organizes, and directs the management, administration, and supervision of recreation services, programs, classes and workshops, special events, summer aquatics, summer enrichment camps, and special recreation
Serves as division head for general programs; sets and defines divisional program goals, objectives, and strategies and initiates new program development
Recruits and selects division staff; supervises, assigns, directs, trains, and inspects the work of staff; coaches, counsels, and evaluates staff performance; develops staff schedules
Conducts staff meetings and reviews upcoming programs and events with staff
Assists with budget preparations and recommendations; works to secure sponsorship for various departmental needs
Assesses programs and facilities for safety, risk, and liability issues or impacts and determines appropriate planning and/or action needs; assesses equipment and supply needs and initiates procurement; authorizes work orders
Promotes and directs facility coordination of program sites including securing, confirming, and inspecting facilities; prepares and approves facility use agreements
Prepares and maintains information on City website and social media
Assists with special projects, presentations, department problems, concerns, and meeting preparation
Serves on various athletic, fitness, or recreational associations, boards, or committees
Maintains records and files, prepare reports
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree with coursework in recreation administration, or related field
Considerable experience in one or more of the major fields of organized recreation programs including supervisory experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Obtain CPR, First Aid, and Certified Pool Administrator certifications within six months of employment
Certified to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding course within six months of employment
Obtain North Carolina Recreation and Park Association (NCRPA) membership and National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS) certification within 3 months of employment
Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina
Required to obtain commercial driver's license within 18 months of employment
Comprehensive knowledge of the philosophies, equipment, and methods necessary to develop, plan, conduct, and evaluate recreation programs in multiple program areas
Comprehensive knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting, and supervising recreation activities
Some knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work
Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, County and School staff, and the general public
