Electrical Solar Engineer
InWave Renewables is a full-service Engineering, Procurement, and Construction firm specializing in solar and battery energy storage systems. The Electrical Solar Engineer will support the design, analysis, permitting, and construction of community-scale and commercial solar projects, taking ownership of the electrical design process from concept to commissioning.

Responsibilities
Develop full electrical design packages, including:
Site solar layout using Solesca, Revit, AutoCAD, and similar tools
Detailed AC/DC sizing, conductor and conduit schedules, voltage drop calculations
Inverter, transformer, MV switchgear, and relay/protection specifications
String layouts, combiner configurations, grounding/bonding plans
Coordinate racking design and all associated cable-management systems (e.g., CAB) to ensure proper routing, support, grounding continuity, and compatibility with the electrical layout
Produce construction-ready drawings:
One-line/three-line diagrams
Site electrical plans
Solar communication plans
Electrical details and labeling sheets
Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, UL, utility standards (ComEd/Ameren), AIMA, and all AHJ requirements
Coordinate interconnection with ComEd, Ameren, and municipal utilities
Prepare and respond to interconnection applications, utility studies, and technical comments
Interpret requirements related to metering, relays, protection schemes, and switching
Perform system modeling using PVsyst, Solesca, SAM, HelioScope, or equivalent
Conduct energy yield assessments, clipping analysis, and shading impacts
Evaluate equipment performance, warranties, and compliance criteria
Provide RFI responses, design markups, and resolve field engineering challenges
Conduct field visits to verify routing, terminations, grounding, as-built conditions and QC requirements
Troubleshoot inverter, transformer, MV equipment, grounding, or DAS/SCADA issues
Prepare electrical permit packages for AHJs
Support Illinois Shines/ILSFA technical documentation
Maintain clean design folders, revision logs, and as-built updates
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
5+ years of electrical engineering experience in solar PV, power systems, or MV distribution
Strong understanding of NEC, grounding/bonding, ampacity, conductor sizing, and MV/LV systems
Proficiency with PV modeling tools (PVsyst, SAM, Solesca or equivalent)
Proficiency with Revit, and AutoCAD
Ability to produce and interpret construction drawings
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Experience with community-scale and C&I solar
Familiarity with Ameren Illinois/ComEd interconnection processes
Experience with MV cable spec, load flow, fault current, and protection coordination
PE license or progress toward PE
Experience with DAS/SCADA systems like AlsoEnergy
