Streets Right-of-Way Supervisor

Responsibilities
Determines maintenance work be performed and schedules crews to carry out work
Supervises the work performed by maintenance crews; conducts performance evaluations of crew members
Maintains equipment and schedules repairs
Plans and sets up work zones; directs traffic as needed
Provides weekly work schedule and prepares daily and monthly reports
Conducts safety meetings and ensures safety procedures are followed on work site
Provides assistance to other street maintenance divisions
Serves as part of the emergency call-out team
Performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks such as cutting grass using weed eaters, tractors, power riding and push equipment; removing leaves and debris; trimming shrubbery, and clearing and landscaping grounds
Mows and performs grounds keeping work in the cemetery. Answers questions from the public regarding the cemetery
Mows street and sidewalk rights-of-way
Marks graves in the cemetery
Plants trees and shrubs
Operates heavy equipment and a variety of power tools
Accepts delivery of trash cans and bins and delivers to customers
Cleans downtown area by picking up trash
Plants, waters, fertilizes, and trims trees and plant material
Erects street signs
Assists crews in pouring and finishing concrete and asphalt
Provides assistance to other departments and divisions as needed
Works as a member of a leaf collection crew
Performs related tasks as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school
Some experience in landscape maintenance or a related field
Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver License - CDL Class 'B' with Class 'N' Tanker endorsement
Possession of state pesticide applicator's license
Traffic flagger certification
Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in grounds maintenance tasks
Considerable knowledge of standard hand tools, operation of equipment, and materials used in assigned work
Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work
Considerable knowledge of landscape maintenance procedures
Some knowledge of the construction and maintenance tasks required of the street department
Ability to work to supervise the work of others
Ability to plant and maintain trees and other plant material
Ability to keep records and prepare accurate reports
Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds constantly
Must possess the visual acuity to operate light equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and small trucks in a safe manner
Preferred
Experience supervising employees performing maintenance, construction, or landscape work is preferred
