Assistant Auditor – Internal Audit I
NEOGOV is seeking an Assistant Auditor – Internal Audit I to work under the general supervision of the County Auditor. This role involves performing entry-level to intermediate auditing duties in revenue auditing, office audits, and bank reconciliation reviews, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory and county policies.

Responsibilities
Maintain daily and timely attendance
Perform all tasks in accordance with work instructions, defined procedures, and county policies
Maintain strict confidentiality of classified, sensitive, and financial information
Provide professional, courteous communication with county departments and the public
Support the overall operations of the Auditor’s Office by providing backup assistance to other internal audit or accounting personnel as needed
Assist in auditing all revenue-generating county offices for accuracy and compliance
Prepare and assist in quarterly Grand Jury Reimbursement documentation
Review department cash receipts for compliance with the Texas Local Government Code
Collect and organize Fiduciary and Agency bank statements (effective March 2021)
Verify that credit card payments have been received, posted, and allocated properly
Review incoming departmental deposits for accuracy and completeness
Confirm that receipts follow proper sequential and numerical order
Investigate discrepancies by obtaining supporting documentation and verifying validity
Summarize receivables by maintaining cash receipt logs, verifying totals, and preparing routine reports
Identify and report discrepancies or irregularities in cash receipts
Review deposit coding for accuracy in accordance with the adopted budget
Resolve invalid or unauthorized discrepancies using established procedures
Verify deposits, monthly statements, and accompanying transactions for accuracy
Communicate with the Treasurer’s Department as needed to address issues or resolve variances
Assist in evidence gathering, documentation, and testing procedures
Follow established audit programs and workpapers
Support risk assessments and sampling activities
Assist in reviewing departmental reconciliations for timeliness, accuracy, and compliance
Identify exceptions and document findings for supervisory review
Qualification
Required
Associate degree or higher or equivalent relevant experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn county financial systems
