Elevator Mechanic Apprentice
The University of Houston is seeking an Elevator Mechanic Apprentice to assist in repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting elevators and lifts in university-owned buildings. The role involves participating in an apprenticeship program under supervision and performing various maintenance tasks to ensure the safe operation of equipment.

Responsibilities
Under supervision, assists elevator mechanics in maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting problems with elevators, dumb waiters and lifts in university owned buildings
Assists in preventative maintenance and inspection of elevators, escalators, lifts and related components
Responds to call-back/trouble calls in a timely manner and restores equipment to a safe operating condition
Applies skills and knowledge learned in the apprenticeship program to learn and develop diagnostic troubleshooting ability; operates tools and equipment common to the elevator trade such as: voltammeter, amp probe, Meggers, tachometer, rotation meter, soldering iron, solid state logic probes, lap top troubleshooting computer and numerous power and hand tools
Maintains machine rooms, elevator pits and elevator car tops in a neat and clean condition, which includes periodic painting
Assists with repairing and maintaining elevators, lifts and escalators
Assists in maintaining equipment inventory as needed
May be assigned to special task force during periods of emergency, such as floods, storms, hurricanes, etc
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED
Requires a minimum of six (6) months of directly job-related experience
All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check
