Device System Integration and Test Lead Engineer
NexTech is a company that specializes in personal safety technology, particularly through their innovative satellite GPS Messenger and IoT devices. The Device System Integration and Test Lead Engineer will oversee the integration and testing of various products, ensuring they meet functional and regulatory requirements before release to customers.
Responsibilities
Own the integration of subsystems into fully functioning products
Lead board and system bring-up, working hands-on in the lab with oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, RF chambers, and other test equipment
Debug hardware–firmware interactions, collaborating with embedded, RF, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to isolate and resolve system issues
Review and provide feedback on schematics, layouts, interface specifications, and mechanical designs from a testability and system-integration perspective
Define product system integration and test strategies for new and existing devices, from prototype through production and sustaining phases
Create and maintain device-focused test plans, test procedures, and integration checklists for board-level, module-level, and system-level validation (functional, performance, RF, power, environmental, mechanical)
Develop and execute verification and validation (V&V) plans to ensure compliance with product requirements, safety standards, RF/regulatory requirements, and reliability targets
Plan and coordinate environmental, mechanical, and reliability testing, and analyze results to drive design improvements
Identify and define hardware test fixtures, jigs, and automated setups needed for system integration and regression testing
Collaborate with test engineering to design and implement automated test solutions for lab and production use
Specify or develop scripts and tools to control lab instruments, collect measurement data, and automate regression test runs for integrated hardware systems
Perform system-level failure analysis using logs, measurements, and lab experiments to support root cause investigations of product and hardware–firmware issues
Document findings in clear, detailed test reports, including failure modes, root cause hypotheses, and recommended corrective actions
Work with design, quality, and manufacturing teams to close the loop on corrective actions, design changes, and process improvements
Act as the central point of contact for product system integration and device test, coordinating activities between hardware, RF, firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and product management
Help build and mentor a small team of system integration and test engineers and/or manage external test contractors
Support design reviews with system integration and test perspectives, ensuring that testability, diagnostics, and system robustness are considered early in the design cycle
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline required
10+ years of relevant experience in product system integration and test for electronic devices
Strong, hands‑on experience with product system integration and test for complex electronic products (preferably wireless, RF, or satellite devices)
Proficiency with electronic and RF lab instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, multimeters, environmental chambers, etc.)
Solid understanding of embedded systems and how hardware interacts with firmware
Familiarity with RF concepts, preferably in GNSS, cellular, or satellite‑communication products
Experience with system‑level validation, including functional, performance, environmental, and reliability testing of physical products
Strong root‑cause analysis and problem‑solving skills with the ability to drive issues from symptom to resolution across disciplines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting issues, risks, and test results to both engineering and management
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple products and test campaigns in a fast‑paced environment
Proficiency validating product firmware or mobile apps
Demonstrated experience leading product system integration and test activities across full product life cycles (prototype through production)
Ability to work in a lab environment for extended periods, including frequent use of test equipment and handling of hardware assemblies
Ability to sit or stand at a bench or desk for 4–8 hours operating a computer and lab instruments
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds on occasion
Willingness and ability to travel to manufacturing sites, test labs, or partner locations as needed
