Trusts & Estates Paralegal/Legal Administrative Assistant
Dentons Davis Brown is currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented professional to join our Trusts & Estates team in our Downtown Des Moines Office. This full-time hybrid position combines Paralegal and Legal Administrative Assistant responsibilities, providing comprehensive support to attorneys in all aspects of Trusts & Estates matters.
Consulting
Responsibilities
Prepare and file probate petitions, inventories, fiduciary accountings, and related court documents
Prepare and file fiduciary income tax and federal estate tax returns
Communicate professionally with clients, beneficiaries, corporate trustees, and advisors to gather information, provide updates, and coordinate document execution
Analyze financial documents, including tax returns and asset valuations; prepare status reports, timelines, and comprehensive asset summaries
Maintain organized and accurate electronic and physical case files, including docketing and tracking key deadlines
Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate appointments across multiple matters
Maintain accurate timekeeping by recording billable hours and task details in compliance with firm billing guidelines
Coordinate filings, mailings, and deliveries (including e-filings and certificates of mailing)
Perform additional administrative or case management tasks as needed to support the Trusts & Estates team
Qualification
Required
High school diploma
Minimum of 1 year of legal administrative experience
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities under deadlines
General knowledge of legal office procedures and terminology
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and adaptability to new software
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational and teamwork skills
Professional and discreet when handling confidential information
Proactive ownership of tasks, clear prioritization, and consistent follow-through
High level of discretion and judgement in handling confidential and sensitive information
Preferred
associate or bachelor's degree
2–3 years minimum legal administrative experience
Strong analytical skills with proven ability to interpret governing instruments, statutes, court rules, and financial statements
