Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end VMware infrastructure transformation projects for enterprise clients

Design and architect modern VMware-based solutions aligned with business objectives

Develop transformation roadmaps and migration strategies from legacy environments

Implement VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) solutions

Drive modernization initiatives including containerization integration (Tanzu) and cloud-native architectures

Plan and execute large-scale VMware migrations (P2V, V2V, cloud to on-premises)

Lead cloud repatriation projects from public cloud platforms back to on-premises VMware infrastructure

Perform workload assessments and develop migration wave plans

Ensure zero-downtime or minimal-impact migration strategies

Execute multi-site datacenter consolidations and relocations

Conduct comprehensive VMware infrastructure health checks and assessments

Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, and optimization reviews

Design highly available, scalable, and resilient VMware architectures

Develop technical documentation including HLD/LLD, runbooks, and standard operating procedures

Provide recommendations for infrastructure improvements and cost optimization

Deploy and configure VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, vSAN, and NSX environments

Implement VMware Aria Suite (formerly vRealize Suite) for automation and orchestration

Configure disaster recovery solutions using VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM)

Deploy and manage VMware Horizon for VDI implementations

Integrate VMware solutions with backup, monitoring, and security tools

Serve as subject matter expert and trusted advisor to clients and internal teams

Mentor junior engineers and consultants on VMware best practices

Lead technical discovery sessions and workshops with stakeholders

Provide pre-sales technical support and solution design consultation

Stay current with VMware product roadmaps and emerging technologies

Required

Minimum 20+ years of hands-on experience with VMware technologies and enterprise virtualization solutions

20+ years of IT infrastructure experience with significant focus on VMware technologies

Minimum 10+ years of hands-on VMware consulting experience

Proven track record of delivering complex, enterprise-scale VMware projects

Experience with Fortune 500 or large enterprise environments (10,000+ VMs)

Strong project management skills with experience in Agile/Waterfall methodologies

Excellent communication skills with ability to present to C-level executives

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience

Ability to travel up to 25-50% (as needed for client engagements)

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Core VMware Technologies (Expert Level): VMware vSphere 6.x/7.x/8.x (ESXi, vCenter Server), VMware vSAN (including stretched clusters and HCI solutions), VMware NSX (NSX-T and NSX-V) for network virtualization, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), VMware Aria Suite (vRealize Automation, Operations, Log Insight), VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and disaster recovery, VMware Horizon (VDI/DaaS solutions)

Additional Technical Expertise: Storage technologies (SAN, NAS, HCI, NFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel), Network architecture and protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching), Scripting and automation (PowerCLI, Python, Terraform, Ansible), Multi-cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid cloud architectures, Backup and recovery solutions (Veeam, Commvault, etc.), Windows and Linux server administration, Security best practices and compliance frameworks
