Senior LevelThe Peak Books is an accounting firm specializing in providing high-quality financial services to businesses of all sizes. They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Remote Controller to oversee financial operations, guide AppFolio Specialists, and ensure accurate reporting and strong internal controls across property management portfolios.
Accounting
Responsibilities
Lead and manage accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities
Oversee and support AppFolio Specialists, ensuring accurate property management accounting and timely reconciliations
Manage and reconcile financial records using AppFolio, QuickBooks Online, Xero, and other accounting platforms as needed
Prepare and present accurate financial statements, management reports, budgets, and forecasts
Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and financial integrity
Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal reporting requirements, including tax filings
Coordinate and manage annual audits, liaising with external auditors and ensuring readiness
Provide strategic financial guidance and actionable insights to leadership and stakeholders
Communicate financial results, trends, and recommendations clearly to internal teams and external partners
Stay updated on accounting regulations, industry best practices, and property management software developments
Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering collaboration and professional growth in a remote environment
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred
Proven experience in a senior accounting, financial management, or Controller role
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls
Hands-on experience with AppFolio highly preferred; QuickBooks Online, Xero, or other accounting platforms a plus
Experience leading accounting teams or supervising specialists
Accounting experience in property management or real estate portfolios strongly desired
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and collaborate with teams and clients
Preferred
CPA or CMA preferred
Hands-on experience with AppFolio highly preferred; QuickBooks Online, Xero, or other accounting platforms a plus
Previous experience in a Big 4 accounting firm is a plus but not required
