Responsibilities
Serve as the organization’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Flavor Chemistry
Lead the creation of original flavor formulations, and adapt existing flavors to specific product matrices and performance criteria
Connect sensory and consumer data with chemical composition, understanding compound stability and ingredient interactions
Partner closely with regulatory teams to ensure full compliance with flavor regulations and labeling requirements
Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, product development, and manufacturing teams to align flavor strategy with product timelines and commercial goals
Mentor junior scientists and support ongoing training within the R&D group
Manage relationships and technical discussions with external flavor houses and ingredient suppliers
Prepare clear technical documentation, reports, and presentations
Explore new sources of natural flavor ingredients, including botanicals, extracts, and spices
Qualification
Required
B.S. in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline
5+ years of hands-on experience in flavor development, with time spent in a flavor house or flavor-centric role
Proven experience creating flavors from scratch, including top notes, masking agents, modulators, and natural flavors
Strong technical understanding of flavor chemistry—reaction flavors, thermal stability, encapsulation, ingredient interactions, etc
Knowledge of global flavor regulations, labeling requirements, and clean-label expectations
Analytical problem solver with a detail-oriented, data-driven mindset
Strong communication and project management skills
