Supplier Development Mechanical Engineer (Global Heavy Equipment Manufacturer)
Task Recruitment is seeking a quality-driven Supplier Development Mechanical Engineer to join a global leader in heavy equipment manufacturing. The role involves managing Supplier Development activities, conducting quality inspections, and ensuring compliance with organizational standards across suppliers in Australia.
Responsibilities
Design, develop and audit manufacturing processes to ensure optimal quality outcomes and alignment with organisational standards
Conduct weld quality inspections and dimensional inspections, overseeing the qualification and certification of finished components through final inspection
Perform compliance audits to verify adherence to this organisation’s and customer's specifications across the supplier base
Serve as the primary liaison between suppliers, this organisation and end customers—coordinating meetings, producing reports, and managing quality-related projects
Establish process expectations and standards through regular audits, with a focus on large fabrications and strong expertise in welding processes
Monitor supplier defect rates, identify risks, and guide suppliers in reducing defects through process controls and continuous improvement initiatives
Lead root cause corrective action (RCCA) activities and manage corrective action requests (CAR), ensuring rapid and effective implementation of ECA, ICA and PCA in response to defects or customer concerns
Conduct quality control audits of supplier manufacturing environments, practices and procedures to ensure compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements
Support suppliers with performance improvement activities, implementing process enhancements and developing quality assurance plans
Champion enterprise-level quality initiatives, drive continuous improvement efforts, and support supplier excellence and certification programs
Maintain accurate documentation, system updates and quality records, while facilitating effective communication between suppliers, customers and key internal stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Prior experience in a Supplier Development, Supplier Quality or Quality Engineering role
Welding certification—Certified Welding Inspector highly regarded
Knowledge of Australian welding and manufacturing quality standards
Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly across varied stakeholder groups
Proven problem-solving ability with experience using tools and methodologies to identify, address and prevent process issues
Solid understanding of process improvement methodologies and continuous improvement principles
Strong quality orientation, including knowledge of quality management tools, PPAP requirements and supplier evaluation methods
Experience in supplier management within a manufacturing environment
Excellent analytical, design and technical problem-solving skills
