Director of Special Education (2026-2027)

The Director of Special Education is responsible for improving the academic and behavioral performance of students with specialized services, managing all aspects of special education and related programs to ensure compliance and support for student success.

Responsibilities
Oversee all Specialized Services programming, including Special Education, 504 Plans, Academic and Social-Emotional Interventions, and English Language Learner (ELL) services
Implement, supervise, and evaluate intervention programs and curricula to ensure alignment with Philadelphia Hebrew Public’s mission and academic goals
Coordinate and manage all aspects of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plan processes, ensuring timely evaluations, meetings, and compliance
Supervise evaluations and related services, including speech, occupational therapy, counseling, and psychological assessments
Oversee and monitor the delivery of School Social Work and Mental Health services, including coordination with external partner organizations
Chair manifestation determination meetings and other special education-related conferences, ensuring due process and legal compliance
Ensure implementation of accommodations and modifications in the general education setting to support student access and success
Maintain full compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws, regulations, and documentation requirements
Serve as a key member of the School Leadership Team, providing expertise on student support systems and inclusive education practices
Conduct formal and informal evaluations of special education teachers, service providers, and support staff, providing coaching and professional development
Collaborate with the Head of School and leadership team to promote a school culture of equity, inclusion, and high expectations for all students
Analyze data related to student progress, interventions, and compliance to inform program improvement and resource allocation
Foster partnerships with families, community agencies, and district representatives to support student outcomes and wraparound services
Qualification
Required
Legally authorized to work in the USA
Master's Degree in Special Education required
At least five (5) years of urban education experience required
PA state certification in special education required
Knowledge of Federal and State Special Education Laws required
Preferred
Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs designed for students with learning, physical and behavioral disabilities
Knowledge of Positive Behavior Supports related to individuals with learning, developmental, and/or emotional disabilities
Knowledge of English Language Development, teaching practices and programming
Knowledge of Academic and Social Emotional Interventions
Strong communication skills and ability to develop trusting relationships with students, staff, and families
