Responsibilities

Include precision adjustment of mechanical relay assemblies so that each device meets its required electrical performance specifications
Electromechanical relays depend on exact mechanical geometry—armature travel, air gaps, spring tensions, contact force, and magnetic alignment—to achieve the correct pull-in, drop-out, contact timing, and resistance levels, where small variations in these mechanical settings directly impact the electrical performance
A core responsibility of the Senior Technician is the precision assembly and fine mechanical adjustment of electromechanical relay components, so each unit meets its required electrical performance specifications. These relays depend on highly controlled mechanical geometry, often requiring adjustments and part placement accurate to 0.001 inch, and involve working under a microscope with delicate components. The technician must demonstrate steady hands, consistent manual dexterity, and careful handling to ensure reliable, repeatable relay operation
Investigate manufacturing issues and tooling discrepancies, propose solutions and work with the internal machining equipment and or outside machinist to fabricate and or modify fixtures and implement corrective actions to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes
Propose design modifications to improve reliability, performance, and cost as required or as requested by the department head
Examine previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, and recommend design or construction modification to optimize the intended function of the tool and or fixture
