Responsibilities
Submits new electronic and paper insurance claims
Performs follow up on outstanding insurances balances including contacting the insurance company and utilization of the internet
Makes appropriate decisions regarding the status of an account utilizing carrier specific billing knowledge
Reviews outstanding physician insurance claims on a timely basis
Processes additional billings as required to obtain maximum payment on account
Responds to correspondence appropriate to area of responsibility
Communicates effectively with other department staff to resolve insurance billing issues
Maintains accuracy of insurance and patient account status
Understands payer billing requirements
Resolve credit balances
Performs other miscellaneous related duties
Qualification
Required
High school diploma
One year experience in a computerized medical setting
Good written and oral communication skills
Experience in medical billing
Experience in medical office setting
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to handle multiple tasks
Ability to get along with others
Ability to work independently
Regular and predictable attendance
Ability to stay awake
Overall dexterity including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling
Ability to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description
Ability to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s)
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching
Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 0-10 lbs
Preferred
Experience in medical billing
Experience in medical office setting
Knowledge of medical terminology
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Software
