Chief Accounting Officer
Berkadia is a company in the commercial real estate industry, seeking a Chief Accounting Officer to oversee all accounting, tax, payroll, and treasury operations functions. Responsibilities
Partnering with the CFO to determine accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions
Managing separate teams with direct responsibility for accounting (U.S. and India), tax (outsourced to tax consultants), payroll, and treasury operations – ensuring quality and adherence to strict timelines. Management responsibility for subordinate managers, including international teams
Managing transaction accounting, the closing process, and financial reporting controls. Oversees accurate and timely delivery of financial statements
Overseeing the Workday Financial Management system; assure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices for all Berkadia entities. Responsible for proficiency and efficiency with using Workday
Principal point of contact with PwC and KPMG, while owning the Company’s interpretation of technical accounting matters and compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations. Research and implement proper accounting and reporting for new corporate structures. Oversee tax compliance and strategy outsourced to 2 different tax consulting firms
Collaborating with and contributing to the Senior Leadership Team to improve overall company performance and enhance the employee experience with Payroll matters, expense reimbursements and invoice processing
Oversees the Payroll function for all Berkadia entities, including weekly/bi-weekly payroll, calculation and payment of complex commission structures, and runs the annual “bottoms-up” (merit increase and discretionary bonus) process. Ensures timely, accurate, and compliant pay practices. Principal point of contact with ADP. Owns and administers incentive compensation plans for Mortgage Banking and Investment Sales
Oversees the Treasury Operations function, including outgoing corporate wire transfers, accounts payable/vendor payments, and employee expense reimbursements
Partners with Legal on all high-profile employee/QREA new hires. Partners with HR and Legal on all employee/QREA separation agreements
Member of Audit Committee, Credit Committee, and 401(k) Committee. Principal point of contact with T. Rowe Price. President of Berkadia Foundation, Inc

Qualification
Preferred
CPA certification
Commercial real estate experience
Experience managing finance and accounting functions, understanding tax regulations and compliance, navigating complete technical research, and familiarity with Workday or other financial software
Exceptional business acumen
Ability to adhere to Berkadia's policies and exhibit proficiency and understanding of Berkadia's Values
Knowledge of accounting principles and best practices
Ability to interface with team members and customers
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to organization policies and procedures
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency
Master's degree or equivalent
20+ years of experience in a similar position
