Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Inc. (LSEM) is a nonprofit law firm providing free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals. The Staff Attorney will assist families and individuals in accessing Medicaid coverage, representing clients in administrative matters and participating in advocacy efforts.

Legal

Responsibilities

Legal case management
Legal research and writing, including drafting of administrative appeals and circuit court briefs
Negotiate with State Agency representatives, Managed Care Organization staff, and medical providers to resolve Medicaid access issues
Represent clients in the administrative appellate process, including at state fair hearings and circuit court appeals
Participate in multi-sector advocacy efforts to improve Medicaid policies and practices
Participate in community outreach activities and build referral and educational relationships with community partner organizations and medical providers

Required

JD and admitted to practice in Missouri (or eligible to be admitted)
Desire to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
Strong communication, research, writing, and advocacy skills
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office

Preferred

Previous experience working in healthcare advocacy, public benefits, or public health policy preferred
Previous experience working with the low-income community preferred
