Intern - Highway Patrol (Summer)
State of South Dakota is seeking an intern for the Highway Patrol during the summer session. The intern will assist with various operations, including crash investigations, firearms training, and motor carrier laws.

Responsibilities
Assisting office staff with special projects dealing with operations and administrative plans
Assisting troopers in crash scene mapping and crash investigations and reconstruction of crashes
Assisting with firearms training sessions
Assisting with sobriety checkpoints
Shadowing Troopers and Office personnel
Assisting with motor carrier enforcement laws and learning working knowledge of motor carrier laws
Assisting with SWAT training scenarios
Completing various other duties deemed feasible
Qualification
Required
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
