Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, Inc. (LSEM) is a nonprofit law firm providing free civil legal assistance to people living with low income/low opportunity. They are seeking a Staff Attorney to work in the Advocates for Family Health program, assisting families and individuals in accessing Medicaid state-based health insurance coverage and benefits, while also engaging in systemic advocacy and impact litigation.

Responsibilities

Legal case management

Legal research and writing, including drafting of administrative appeals and circuit court briefs

Negotiate with State Agency representatives, Managed Care Organization staff, and medical providers to resolve Medicaid access issues

Represent clients in the administrative appellate process, including at state fair hearings and circuit court appeals

Participate in multi-sector advocacy efforts to improve Medicaid policies and practices

Participate in community outreach activities and build referral and educational relationships with community partner organizations and medical providers

Required

JD and admitted to practice in Missouri (or eligible to be admitted)

Strong communication, research, writing, and advocacy skills

Previous experience working in healthcare advocacy, public benefits, or public health policy

Previous experience working with the low-income community

Desire to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
