Responsibilities

Advocate on behalf of the Individual Assistance applicants (individuals and families) to ensure survivors are provided resource availability of state, federal, and non-governmental organizations for housing assistance and addressing personal property loss
Resolve issues between the survivor and FEMA and bring any unresolved issues/concerns to the Individual Assistance Program Manager
Plan and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while working with minimal supervision
Work and concentrate in an open area environment at the FEMA Joint Field Office (JFO)
Deploy to disaster areas for extended periods and overnight travel, may require twelve (12) hour shift work, weekend/holiday duty and excessive overtime during recovery periods
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in sociology, psychology, political science, business administration, public administration, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience related to the specific program assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

Ability to interpret federal and state program policies
Knowledge of federal grants administration
Strong work management and organizational skills to handle tight deadlines
Ability to deploy to disaster areas for extended periods and overnight travel, may require twelve (12) hours shift work, weekend/holiday duty and excessive overtime during recovery periods
Requires working with local, state and federal officials both verbally and in writing
Knowledge of basic computer applications and software packages including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Experience referring survivors to available resources
Knowledge of federal, state, and/or local governments' resources which address unmet housing needs
Knowledge of emergency and disaster management protocols and infrastructure recovery project management; fluent bilingual skills (English/Spanish)
