Responsibilities

Review all pertinent data and determine requirements for ancillary testing and occupational health medical surveillance program placement

Evaluate patients for referral to nurse or physician

Perform various screenings such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs) and review results for completeness and accuracy

Refer abnormal vital signs, vision screenings, EKS, audiometry, and spirometry results to an occupational health nurse (OHN) or provider for evaluation per clinic standard operating procedures (SOP)

Verify and order all indicated laboratory studies, X rays, immunizations and other ancillary tests as appropriate

Document pertinent data in the medical record on other documents, as appropriate for the examination being performed on both hard and electronic copies

Comply with Infection control guidelines and practices including universal precautions

Triage patients as they arrive, identifying those whose examinations/evaluations will need to be expedited

Must be able to obtain NIOSH approved Spirometry certification within six months of employment

Must be able to obtain Tri-Service Hearing Technician Certification within six months of employment

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation

A Personnel Security Investigation is required

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment

A background investigation and credit check are required

Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption

This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing

Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing

A pre-placement medical examination is required

Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact

Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association Within six months of employment

Moderate to heavy lifting up to 15 pounds is required

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social)

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application

One year of specialized experience which assisting with reception and/or clerical duties in a Medical Treatment Facility; assisting with maintaining and/or updating medical records; and assisting with tests, screenings, and/or examinations such as audiograms, pulmonary function testing, and vision screenings

Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or Health Informatics
