Transmission Line Engineer
VELCO is the nation’s first statewide, transmission-only company managing electric power transmission throughout Vermont. The Transmission Line Engineer will focus on designing and supervising transmission line projects, engaging with non-engineering aspects of the business, and ensuring project success within the Vermont power system.

Responsibilities
Performs designs of high voltage transmission lines
Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs, modifications, and structural repairs
Use computer-assisted design (CAD), PLS-CADD software and drawing tools to accurately analyze, render and communicate designs
Plans projects based on the analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data such as Lidar
Estimates materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine project costs
Collaborates with electrical engineers and other groups as needed on projects
Collaborates with architects and contractors to ensure projects progress properly
Collaborates with surveyors (or directs and participates in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction
Monitors project progress and ensures design specifications, safety, and sanitation standards are met
On completion of a project, inspects, designs or comments on proposed repairs, and maintains details on the structures as needed
Develops, reviews and maintains company design standards, specifications, engineering procedures, and equipment configuration settings templates
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Engineering or Engineering Technology is required
Typically 3-6 years of experience for Mid-Career Engineer level
Typically more than 7 years of experience for Senior Engineer level
Fundamental understanding of civil engineering principles as they relate to transmission systems and practices
Knowledgeable in computer-assisted design (CAD), PLS-CADD and other design, data recording, and analyzation software
Ability to understand and apply NESC, NEC and OSHA safety regulations related to assigned projects
Ability to identify and solve complex problems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to be both creative and analytical
Extremely detail-oriented and accurate
Preferred
Master's Degree in Engineering or a specialized industry credential such as a Certificate in Power Systems Management
