Technical Writer

Responsibilities

Produce and maintain high-quality documentation, including user guides, SOPs, program communications, and social media content
Write and edit technical documents with clarity, accuracy, and audience-appropriate structure
Edit and format technical and program documentation in Word and PowerPoint
Support the System Owner by developing core security documentation, including the System Security Plan (SSP), Continuous Monitoring Plan (CMP), Incident Response Plan (IRP), and Contingency Plan (CP)
Serve as a senior editor to ensure consistency across internal and external training materials
Conduct quality reviews to ensure proper grammar, punctuation, and style
Integrate multiple stakeholder inputs into polished, client-ready deliverables
Review and update security documentation at least annually in support of Security Assessment and Authorization (SA&A)
Develop client training aids such as video scripts, presentation materials, and social media content
Learn complex technical concepts and communicate them in simple, engaging ways
Collaborate with SMEs and internal authors to refine documentation and provide recommendations for improvement
Gather and synthesize stakeholder feedback to enhance usability and inform future investments
Support Agile team workflows and SDLC-aligned documentation needs
Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager

Required

Bachelor's degree in a related field
Knowledge of NIST 800-53 security controls
Strong writing and editing skills
Ability to understand and translate technical subject-matter content
Expertise in audience and user analysis
Documentation planning, structuring, and organization
Familiarity with documentation tools and formats (e.g., Word, PowerPoint)
Strong research and information-gathering capabilities
Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
Experience working in Agile environments
Strong collaboration and communication abilities
Empathy and a user-centric approach to documentation
Adaptability and quick learning capabilities
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong organization and time-management skills
Excellent attention to detail
Openness to feedback and iterative revision

Preferred

Understanding of Cloud fundamentals
Understanding of AI fundamentals
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts
Experience with Confluence, JIRA, or similar collaboration tools
Prior experience managing system documentation that supports security assessments
