Legal Internship – Beginning Summer 2026
The Allen Institute is dedicated to understanding the principles that govern life and advancing health. They are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Legal Intern to join their Legal Department, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with legal issues within a nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities
Conduct research on legal issues and provide concise summaries and analysis to support the Legal Department's work. This may include researching federal and state laws, regulations, and case law relevant to the Institute's operations
Assist in reviewing, drafting, and editing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. Ensure compliance with legal requirements and internal policies
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance across the organization. This may involve reviewing and updating existing policies and providing recommendations for improvement
Assist with intellectual property matters, including technology transfer, patent and trademark research, licensing, prosecution, and enforcement
Assist in maintaining legal files, documentation, and databases. Ensure accurate and organized record-keeping for easy retrieval of information
Provide general support to the Legal Department, including assisting with on-going and special projects as needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in an accredited law school program located in Seattle
Strong research and analytical skills
Familiarity with legal research tools and databases
Preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and ability to organize and prioritize tasks
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion
Prior work experience in an in-house counsel or professional environment
Science background preferred, though not required
Non-profit experience helpful
Sound judgment and critical thinking skills
Ability to be flexible and adapt to a diverse workload
Excellent time management and organization skills
Self-starter with the ability to meet or exceed deadlines, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment
