Orthopedic Technician Assistant Manager
Orthopedic Physicians Alaska is a rapidly growing organization dedicated to providing high-quality orthopedic care. The Orthopedic Technician Assistant Manager will support the Orthopedic Technician Manager in leading a multi-location team and perform various casting technician duties, including teaching patients and managing medical equipment.

Responsibilities
Work in tandem with Orthopedic Technician Manager to ensure compliance of department and medical practice policies, procedures, and regulations
Observe and enforce safety protocols for all orthopedic technician department modalities
Communicate with physicians, support staff, and other health care professionals to facilitate department operations
Responsible for scheduling and maintaining workload requirements and respond to competing priorities in daily operations
Oversee the availability of resources, supplies, and support staff to conduct In Office Procedures
Assist Material Management with initiating requisitions for faulty equipment and coordination of scheduled maintenance of medical equipment
Perform and teach splinting, casting, and application of traction, braces and other devices under the direction of an orthopedic physician or physician assistant
Perform direct and indirect patient care activities within the scope of practice of an orthopedic technologist and specific training, assisting orthopedic physician with dressing changes, suture and pin removal, incision and drainage, reducing fractures, etc
Educate patients and staff regarding proper care and use of appliances
Document the care administered
In coordination with Material Management, oversee and order all casting, clinical, DME, and patient supplies, including instruments
Stock supply/DME rooms as needed
Coordinate Material Management returns and new item requests
Monitor and report custom DME to Billing Department
Clean and autoclave instruments
Orient and provide on-the-job training in casting and splinting to resident physicians and staff
Perform other duties as needed or assigned by direct supervisor
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
Knowledge of principals and techniques of casting, splinting, wound care and asepsis techniques, procedures and protocols
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary; this includes body mechanics and patient movement
Knowledge of basic surgical protocols; sterile draping, skin preparation, instrument and post-procedural wound care/dressing
Knowledge of ordering and procuring appropriate daily inventory to accommodate daily orthopedic casting/splinting/wound care/in office procedure needs
Understanding of leadership and team principles
Skill in the area of tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions
Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families
Skilled in the application of casting, splinting, orthopedic appliances, and patient positioning
Skill in identifying equipment issues, documentation, and notification
Skill in following infection control and clinical safety procedures
Ability to work closely with Orthopedic Technician Manager to disseminate information, plan, prioritize, and delegate tasks to casting team
Ability to motivate casting team
Ability to maintain a clean and orderly work environment
Ability to help manager maintain the Ortho Tech Schedule and ensure a fair and equitable work in times of critical manpower
Ability to apply verbal and written instructions and standardized work practices
Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures
Ability to project a pleasant and professional image
Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
Preferred
Leadership experience in addition to Medical Assistant or orthopedic technology certificate or related associate's degree
