WebPT is a company dedicated to empowering rehab therapy professionals. As the Senior Manager for Database Engineering, you will lead the database engineering and operations team, ensuring the design and maintenance of reliable and secure database services for the company's SaaS offerings.

Responsibilities

Lead, hire and grow the database team, mentor team members, and encourage personal development

Build and execute on database engineering and operations roadmap and deliver the agreed milestones

Facilitate the strategic direction of the team and identify opportunities to support the engineering organization, recommend/implement solutions to continuously improve service and product reliability

Define data and database best practices and influence Dev teams to adopt the defined standards

Maintain security compliance and configuration standards and tap on opportunities to automate manual tasks

Collaborate with other SaaS Operations and Dev teams to ensure proactive monitoring, high availability, disaster recovery and performance of products to achieve the best customer experience

Define and refine appropriate SLA/SLOs and drive to optimize the team productivity

Establish and sustain a culture of innovation, accountability, and delivery

Subject Matter Expert on how the application works, its underlying architecture, and data relationships. Passionate to solve reliability challenges across the organization

Address data and database related escalations, provide ongoing support for customer-facing applications and share a 24/7 MIM leadership on-call rotation responsibility. Own the root cause analysis and a fix for incidents

Required

Minimum of five years experience in software development or maintaining cloud infrastructure

Ability to lead, build, and motivate a team with a wide range of skill sets

Ability to deep-dive into technical issues around database, its security, and operations. Must have good understanding of networking, storage, and servers

Good grasp in software engineering best practices that include Agile methodology

Understanding of how services scale, fail, and recover. You recommend architectural changes and work directly with applications to implement your designs

A great problem solver using reverse engineering discipline. Ability to simplify complex issues

Super eye for troubleshooting data and/or database issues, identifying the root cause and working to fix them

Fast learner and not afraid of dealing with the unknown. Comfortable to work in a fast tempo environment

Be highly adaptable to change in a fast-moving environment. Great sense of urgency

Able to maintain professional composure in any situation or pressure conditions

Advanced knowledge of configuration management tooling such as Terraform, Puppet, Ansible or Chef

Advanced knowledge of enterprise monitoring and alerting tools such as Prometheus and APM products (New Relic, AppDynamics or similar)

Strong understanding of ITIL practices of change, incident, and problem management

Container deployment and orchestration technologies at scale with knowledge of service discovery, deployments, monitoring, scheduling and load balancing

Must have managed a database engineering and/or operations team and led popular database technologies (MS SQL Server, MySQL Server, PostgreSQL, AuroraDB)

Experience designing and supporting databases in hybrid and multi-cloud environment and highly automated DevOps practices

Critical thinking with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience with SaaS software systems in a production environment

Experience in writing and performance tuning database queries/stored procedures

Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems
