Drafting Technician 2

The Drafting Technician 2 will support project teams by utilizing 2D and 3D software to fulfill project needs, gather drawings, calculate material requirements, and interact with the fabrication team to produce products.

Responsibilities
Follows specifications and contract documents to create various technical drawings
Creates rough sketches and detailed designs with 2D and 3D modeling software for review by Design Managers, Project Managers, or Production Team
Utilizes 2d and 3d software to calculate, compile and sort data to inform various business needs dimensions, weight limitations and requirements for materials being used
Prepares, reviews, and redrafts designs in coordination with other internal team members
Identifies and communicates potential design issues to team members and redesigns products to improve the production and installation efficiency
Coordinates with design managers to clarify information shown in the contract documents and uses new information to complete coordinated designs
Communicates with production team to obtain all necessary details to design and draw the required component or assembly
Ensures final designs comply with quality standards
Produces a wide range of drawings such as shop drawings for submittals, fabrication drawings, layout drawings, drawings for programing automated equipment, etc
Adheres to company drafting standards
Makes PDF drawing sheets for review by internal and external partners from various design models
Ability to perform field measurements and 3D scans on a construction site to collect accurate information and incorporates it into design models and drawings
Inspires a sense of team in the work environment. Utilizes communication and conflict resolution skills to help foster teamwork and collaboration
Demonstrates willingness and ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally to obtain information or solve problems in support of the team’s goals

Manages time and tracks project hours for billing purposes
Collaborates with external architects and engineers, and incorporates knowledge gained into design models and drawings
Evaluates and modifies drawings accordingly to enhance efficiency and improve the production processes
Manages design schedule to achieve multiple deadlines on a variety of projects
Provides on-the-job guidance and willingly shares subject matter expertise to support team members’ learning and development
Identifies issues with contract documents and provides solutions for evaluation by owner, architect, and project team
Creates bills of materials with parametric design software
Ability to develop a parametric model around a given group of variables so the model can be adapted for use on a wide range of projects
May be responsible for describing production methods step-by-step including equipment and software types to be used
Ability to create modeling templates that support internal design standards
Coordinates drawings to city and government requirements
Designs diagrams, maps and layouts to illustrate workflow and assembly process
Interacts directly with the project team to identify details needed to design and draw components and clarify information as needed
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED
2+ years design or related experience
2+ years' experience drawing components for construction projects
2+ years' experience modeling in 3D
2+ years' experience creating drawings or models to be used for producing components with automated equipment
Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
Communication skills, verbal and written
Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources
Ability to identify common construction materials and shop equipment
Proficiency with AutoCAD software – Advanced
Ability to convert a 2D CAD file into a Computer Numeric Control (CNC) program
Proficiency in parametric modeling software (Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, etc.) or 3D modeling software (Tekla, SDS2, Rhino, Revit, Grasshopper, etc.)
Proficiency in math-based skills and ability to convert between units
Knowledge of layout practices
Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications
Ability to assess and optimize project productivity
Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally
Preferred
Associate's degree in design, drafting, architecture or related field
Vocational or Technical training
