Supervisor, Controls Engineering – Universal Epic Universe
Universal Orlando Resort is seeking a Supervisor for Controls Engineering to lead the design and development of control, electrical, and software systems for theme park venues. The role involves supervising engineers, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and providing leadership in engineering projects to enhance operational improvements and reliability.

Responsibilities
Will lead re-engineering efforts for Venues for complex control, electrical, and software systems to improve safety including writing and reviewing software/hardware. Will provide assigned Engineers support with designs, drawings, evaluation, and calculations to improve reliability, operational readiness, cost of ownership, and quality. Interacts with UO Ride/Show Maintenance Departments for prioritizing project tasks and training initiatives to improve ride reliability and operational readiness. All work shall be in conformance with ASTM F24 Guidelines, applicable codes, regulations and standards
Supervise assigned Engineers to effectively provide the highest standards of safety, reliability and quality for the Venues, ensuring that appropriate support is provided with Venue downtime recovery, troubleshooting, fault analysis, testing, start-up integration, etc. Ensure the Engineer’s work is in compliance with all ASTM F24 Guidelines, applicable codes, regulations and standards
Support Engineering Management with the hiring, training, scheduling, and development of the Engineers. The Supervisor will also assist Engineering Management in developing and controlling the department budget and other related requests
Provide Engineering leadership and guidance for non-routine problems requiring substantial judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of Engineering’s procedures, i.e., Production shoots, HHN construction, special events, etc
Assist Engineering Management in the creation and modification of policies / procedures for the Engineering Department while setting tone, establishing a vision, providing direction, and enforcing policy/procedure
Coordinate and facilitate intra-department partners and external resources to encourage friendly working relationships for everyone including: Environmental Health & Safety, Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, Horticultural, Water Quality, Operations, Security, and outside vendors
Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities

Qualification
Required
High school degree or GED is required
Bachelor's degree is required in Controls, Electrical, Electronic, Network, or related field
5-7 years demonstrated project engineering experience of electrical engineering, control systems design and installation in an engineering environment for the development of dynamic motion (mobile) systems in a theme park industry
6-8 years of electrical and control design associated with dynamic motion (mobile) systems and components
6-8 years of strong analytical skills to perform engineering calculations for design, analysis, test and implementation of electrical and control system modifications required
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Proficient analytical skills to perform engineering calculations for design, analysis, test and implementation of electrical and control motion systems
Proficient background in servo controls as applied to hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromotive motion control systems and Allen Bradley PLC systems and others as applicable to ISO 13849-1, IEC60204-1, IEC62061, ISO12100 standards, PLC Safety Levels, UL 508A, NEC, ASTM (F24 Standards), and best practices
Proficient knowledge and logical approach to problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities of Control System and some Mechanical systems
Proficient in Safety Critical Systems, Ride/Show Systems, Animation Systems, Electrical Drawings, Ladder logic (software/drawings), Control Schematics, and Technical Documents
Strong experience in the generation of Control System (hardware and Software), Components, System Specifications, Acceptance Test Procedures, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Scopes of Work, Installation Procedures, Technical and Maintenance manuals
Strong knowledge in ASTM F24 Regulations and other standards as they apply to theme parks
Preferred
Master's degree is preferred in Controls, Electrical, Electronic, Network, or related field
1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred
Passes FE Exam or EIT Exam
PE License
Allen-Bradley PLC System Certification Training
Motor Control and Drive (AC/DC) Certification Training
Cisco Networking and/or Wireless Network Certification
