Responsibilities

Advise on legal questions touching all aspects of our operations, including expansion, compliance, charter management, and our day-to-day operations

Manage regulatory reporting to authorizers and government agencies

Support advocacy and lobbying efforts

Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, using pragmatic business judgment and making appropriate risk determinations

Advise on data privacy issues

Conduct legal research and writing

Qualification

Required

J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school (or equivalent)

Licensed to practice in at least one U.S. state, with admission to the New York Bar or eligibility for in-house qualification in New York

At least four years of legal experience, including in-house at a fast-paced company, nonprofit, and/or BigLaw

Preferred

Demonstrated interest in education and/or the nonprofit sector

Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and willing to take on new challenges

Strong interest in supporting advocacy and expansion efforts in New York and beyond

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Flexible, proactive, and collaborative, with a sense of humor

Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
