Responsibilities

Teach Automotive courses including Electrical, Brakes & Suspension, Transmissions, Engines, and other related subjects
Assist in developing and implementing the instructional program and relevant educational services in support of student preparation and success
Teach day, evening, and/or Saturday classes on and off campus as required
Assist with outreach and recruitment of students into program
Work with and maintain effective relations with advisory committees and employers
Prepare reports and compile program data as necessary and/or requested by the supervisor/Department Chair
Establish and maintain appropriate records for the program and students
Perform duties associated with instructing students and assessing their progress in relation to identified student learning outcomes
Participate in college and departmental functions, such as assessment of student learning outcomes, professional development activities staff meetings, others
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps

Required

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
Any bachelor's degree, or higher degree, from an accredited institution AND two years of professional experience that is directly related to the teaching assignment
Any associate degree from an accredited institution AND six years of professional experience that is directly related to the teaching assignment
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Industrial Trade (Automotive Mechanics). California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990
The equivalent

Preferred

Five years or more of current journey person experience in automotive repair
Two years or more of teaching experience in automotive repair
Possess current industry certifications in current industry training
Experience working with diverse populations
Knowledge of health and safety regulations of Cal OSHA
Demonstrated professional industry related updated training
Experience in curriculum and lesson plan preparation
Possess strong interpersonal and collegial leadership skills
Experience with applying for grants in Automotive Technology sector
Evidence of instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students
Possess current A.S.E. Certifications-A1 through A8 and G1
