Responsibilities

Assist in the conduct of Pharmacy Technician classes to meet the State Board of Pharmacy requirements and standards
Teach in-person Pharmacy Technician classes that include current pharmaceutical care as defined by national professional practice organizations, i.e., American Society of Health Care Systems
Provide in-person instruction in accordance with the curriculum that focuses on the attainment of all learning objectives
Teach in-person day, evening, and/or Saturday classes or classes at one or more sites as required
Establish and maintain working relationships with practice training sites
Work to ensure consistent overall quality of the student laboratory component
Organize instruction to include a high quality laboratory component for optimum learning experiences of students
Work collaboratively with instructors, pharmacists, or technicians to teach various subjects which include: pharmacology, automated drug distribution systems, IV additives, pharmacy law, pharmacy math, pharmaceutical chemistry, and pharmacy computer systems
Utilize experimental and innovative approaches in structuring pharmacy training which demonstrate contemporary pharmacy practice
Participate in departmental functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, faculty evaluations, curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and others
Supports an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps
Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required)
Earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus two years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Earned Associate Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree, plus six years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Earned Associate Degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent foreign degree AND an accredited Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT), plus four years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's assignment; OR THE EQUIVALENT
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Health and Physical Care Services and Related Technologies (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990)

Preferred

Earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy recognized by State Board
Completion of work experience (internship) in a community-based pharmacy and institutional health care setting
Demonstrated successful teaching experience to prepare health care professionals at the postsecondary/community college level
Two (2) years of successful practical experience in a pharmacy with automated drug distribution systems, i.e., Pyxis, AccuDose, or OmniCell
Prior teaching experience in a multi-cultural environment
Demonstrated competencies in pharmacy skills areas
Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the specific subject areas as delineated by course content; ability to evaluate and adapt teaching methods to the learning styles of students; and the ability to teach by using a variety of instructional methods
Maintenance of up-to-date professional standing, i.e., continuing education and/or licensing requirements including courses in educational theory and practices
Evidence of successful leadership experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students
