Responsibilities

Oversee the management and maintenance of CoSE physical operations and laboratory facilities throughout five buildings (reverse osmosis water system, fume hoods, compressors, vacuum systems, electricity, key requests, etc.). Key contact for all facilities and capital projects requests related to the maintenance of the physical condition of instructional spaces and offices. Oversee department-initiated work orders requiring escalation and submit college work orders averaging 10-15 per month
Identify problems and process requests for repairs and direct those requests to the appropriate entities
Address and resolve (where possible) faculty concerns about classroom conditions
Oversee lab renovations and repairs as well as track all related work orders
Assist faculty researchers with lab issues (equipment, facilities, etc.). Advises administrators on problems that remain unresolved and/or require additional resources
Work in collaboration with CoSE technical staff and provide lead work direction to coordinate physical moves, addresses building concerns, maintain coverage during absences, and ensure security for buildings
Coordinate with Facilites as required, including updating building occupants of service disruptions and space closures due to testing of building systems, etc
Oversee health and safety standards and concerns for all CoSE buildings, including fire marshal requirements, in coordination with SF State Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S). Make appropriate adjustments to facilities to ensure ADA compliance and inform administrators when ensuring compliance requires additional resources
Act as the liaison between CoSE stockroom staff and CoSE Dean
Coordinate with Facilities and CPDC on all projects and participate in monthly project update meetings
Oversee sourcing, selection, negotiation, and closing on equipment and supplies needed for CoSE Projects
Advise on development and oversight of construction/maintenance budgets
Act as the liaison between CoSE departments and SF State Capitol Planning for all construction and remediation projects
Provide technical consultation and leadership on capital projects in CoSE spaces and coordinate with department technical staff and outside venders regarding equipment installation, repair and maintenance for specialized learning spaces
Advise CoSE Dean of all facilities projects in CoSE. Research and make recommendations to Dean for equipment purchases
Help develop and plan facility improvements for CoSE
Ensure appropriate procedures and guidelines are met
Function as the college emergency coordinator; the incumbent may be on call 24-7 to respond to emergencies or after hours situations. Coordinate coverage for any emergency in five buildings (Hensill Hall, Thornton Hall, Science Building (ESB), Science & Engineering Innovation Center (SEIC), and the Ethnic Studies & Psychology Building) including power outages, water leaks, fume hood malfunctions, and major instrumentation failures. Key contact responsible for reporting public safety problems for department offices and spaces in CoSE
Lead one .50 tb staff in CoSE vehicle fleet maintenance and repair and in package delivery for the college
Act as backup to this position as required

Required

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations
Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational and fiscal management
Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and systems analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend newer revised policies
Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions
Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations
Demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups
Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus

Preferred

Bachelor's of Science degree and 5 years of relevant experience in operations, project management and laboratory facilities management
In-depth, specialized knowledge of the technical and infrastructure support requirements in a variety of laboratory environments and educational office space
Requires the ability to analyze, prioritize and respond appropriately to a complex mix of scientific, technical and managerial demands
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to implement and develop policies and procedures
Possess a strong ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and outside organizations
Working knowledge of applicable agency standards and of appropriate building and construction code regulations and safety procedures
Strong problem solving abilities and persistent motivation to solve a wide variety of issues
