The Chief Legal Officer will oversee legal service delivery, design scalable workflows, and ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions while shaping the strategic direction of a hybrid SaaS + legal model.

Responsibilities

Serve as the legal co-founder and senior advisor on all matters of regulatory compliance, UPL boundaries, and risk management
Define the legal structure for the hybrid model (tech entity + law firm entity) and oversee multi-jurisdictional licensing as we scale
Help shape the pricing and delivery model for legal services integrated with our SaaS product
Develop and maintain a scalable legal review framework using flat-fee and subscription-based models
Oversee the creation and upkeep of legal templates, compliance content, and jurisdictional updates
Implement processes for AI-assisted legal workflows with human-in-the-loop review for risk-sensitive matters
Ensure the platform and law firm operate within UPL-safe frameworks and meet ethical and professional standards
Build internal policies for client intake, engagement letters, disclaimers, and document management
Collaborate with the product team to embed legal guardrails into the platform
Recruit, mentor, and manage a small but high-performing team of attorneys and legal ops specialists as we grow
Act as a trusted point of escalation for complex legal matters
Build relationships with regulators, legal tech communities, and strategic partners to advance our mission

Qualification

Required

Licensed U.S. Attorney in good standing
8+ years of experience in corporate law, venture financing, or startup advisory (BigLaw + in-house experience ideal)
Deep understanding of startup legal needs: fundraising (SAFEs, convertible notes, equity), employment law, commercial contracts, and compliance
Entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable operating in ambiguity, building processes from scratch, and wearing multiple hats
Excited by legal innovation, automation, and the future of AI in professional services
Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing legal teams or practice groups

Preferred

multi-state experience preferred; DE/CA/NY/TX a plus
