Business & Technical Research Information Analyst – Information and Research Services
Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is dedicated to solving complex challenges in defense, security, space, and science. Responsibilities
Assist APL staff in locating the technical information resources necessary for their work, including both classified and unclassified databases
Manage enterprise-wide online subscriptions and ensure efficient access to licensed resources
Collaborate with Johns Hopkins Library colleagues to guarantee that APL staff have access to relevant and up-to-date information resources
Proactively identify and share new scientific and technical information relevant to staff interests—using both manual and automated methods
Consult with internal customers to understand complex technical questions, then research, analyze, and present findings on systems, programs, and emerging technologies
Support strategic planning, new business development, and internal innovation initiatives
Create and deliver training on research resources and methods through virtual classes, videos, and online guides
Promote Information and Research Services through presentations and outreach across APL
Build and maintain expertise in scientific, technical, and business information resources, cultivating relationships with government and commercial data providers
Represent APL in Johns Hopkins Library and external professional communities
Qualification
Required
Hold an Master of Library Science, Master of Library & Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
Have 5+ years of experience providing research or information services
Are a strong communicator with experience presenting research and analysis to technical audiences
Are creative, flexible, and customer-focused, with a strong desire to learn
Have knowledge of scientific and technical information sources
Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship
Preferred
Experience with licensing electronic resources
Degree (bachelor's or graduate) in a STEM discipline (e.g., engineering, computer science, physics, geosciences, biological sciences, operations research)
Experience working with or within DoD or other government organizations
Skills in bibliometrics, natural language processing, machine learning, or other computational information analysis techniques
Experience in competitive intelligence or business research
Active membership in professional organizations such as SLA, MLA, or ACM, or experience as a published author
