Wetland Environmental Scientist - Mid to Senior Level

Responsibilities

Lead a crew, supported by a jr. scientist in performing wetland delineations and functional assessment investigations in accordance with the USACE 1987 Manual and Regional Supplements. Collecting and preparing all associated spatial boundary data, data forms, and wetland reports
Lead surface water quality/biological assessments (chemistry, macroinvertebrates, and habitat)
Lead botanical and wildlife habitat assessments. Preference for candidates capable and experienced in conducting botanical presence / absence surveys and reporting
Conduct fieldwork activities with out-of-town travel typically required 25-30% of the time. The fieldwork will primarily be in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, but some further travel may be required
Assist in the preparation of Section 404 (Department of the Army Permit Applications), Section 401 Water Quality Certification Permit Applications, and PADEP Chapter 105/Joint Permit Applications
Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards
Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness
Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns

Required

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, or a closely related field is required
Over 5 years of direct wetland, botanical, and/or wildlife workplace experience with projects related to one or more of the following industries: transportation, water, energy, mining, reclamation, and natural resources
Wetland delineation certification is required
Candidates must have substantial direct workplace experience conducting and/or leading wetland delineations, botanical surveys, and/or assessments to be considered for this position
Over 5 years of experience writing technical reports and handling and organizing data is required
Data collection analysis and interpretation experience is required
Knowledge of PC-compatible computers and Microsoft Windows/Office software applications is required
Willingness and ability to travel as needed out of town, up to approximately 25-30% of time. The fieldwork will primarily be located in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, but some further travel may be required

A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required
You must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions

Preferred

Master's Degree in a related field is preferred
Professional Wetland Scientist or Wetland Scientist in Training Certification preferred
The preferred candidate will also have a valid PA DCNR Wild Plant Management Permit
Knowledge of Ohio Rapid Assessment Method for Wetlands and Ohio Primary Headwater Habitat is required; associated certification preferred
A solid understanding of the natural resource permitting processes for the above-mentioned industries
Familiarity with wetland mitigation site selection, design, and monitoring. Experience with NEPA document preparation (CEE, EA, and EIS) desired but not required
GIS/database/statistical experience in the environmental fields is a plus
Experience using electronic tablets (iPads and Samsung Tablets) to record pertinent data, specifically utilizing Wildnote, Field Maps, and Solocator Applications, is preferred
Experience applying for State and/or Federal permits is preferred
GIS/database/statistical experience in the environmental field is preferred
Phase I Environmental Site Assessments experience is preferred
