Summer Camp & Special Programs Intern

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is responsible for managing various operations for the state government. The Summer Camp & Special Programs Intern will educate Aquarium visitors through activities aimed at inspiring appreciation and conservation of aquatic environments, gaining teaching experience and improving communication skills in the process.

Responsibilities

The Summer Camp & Special Programs Intern will educate Aquarium visitors through fun activities in an effort to "inspire appreciation and conservation of aquatic environments."
The efforts of the Summer Camp & Special Programs Intern will be concentrated in either summer camps or daily indoor/outdoor programs
Summer Camps run M-F, most weeks, for ages 6/7, 8/9, 10/11, or 12/13
Daily public program tasks include promotion, preparation, and instruction of activities such as fishing, crabbing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, behind-the-scenes tours, and live animal programs
Interns may also provide educational interpretation at exhibits, touch pools, and discovery stations
Additional daily tasks may include developing and facilitating camp activities, promoting programs, and driving a 15-passenger van

Required

An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college, university, law school, community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state
Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Applicant must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years old by January 1, 2026
Applicants must be continuing their education in the fall following their participation in the program
To qualify for a law internship, applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the beginning of the internship, unless other majors are listed
Students having previously held paid internships with this program are not eligible to apply
Applicants must be willing and able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship
Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment
Background check and valid NC driver's license are required

Experience working with the public and in camps
Ability to work well with others in a rigorous schedule
Flexibility to work outdoors for an extended time
Strong people skills
Good time management and organizational skills
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced schedule
Some weekend work may be required
