Education Intern

Responsibilities

Interns will use educational programming to achieve the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island's mission: to inspire appreciation and conservation for our aquatic environments
Intern will assist in running and maintaining hands-on activities, exhibits and educational carts in the Investigate lab
This includes daily interaction with Museum guests as well as interpreting and communicating a variety of natural science related topics
Intern will create and lead science related activities during a one-week long summer camp for middle school students
Collaborating with Museum education staff will expose the intern to different science education techniques and opportunities
Interns will be trained to conduct public education programs; give interpretive information to visitors at exhibits; staff discovery stations; monitor and interpret at the Sea Senses touch pools; and assist with other tasks as assigned
Interns will also learn how to coordinate our daily schedule, record, and maintain accurate program data, and update our content management software

Required

An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college, university, law school, community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state
Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Applicant must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years old by January 1, 2026
Applicants must be continuing their education in the fall following their participation in the program
To qualify for a law internship, applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the beginning of the internship, unless other majors are listed
Students having previously held paid internships with this program are not eligible to apply
Applicants must be willing and able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship
Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Public speaking skills (or a desire to improve them)
Marine ecology and biology information
Animal handling
Customer service experience
Ability to work with diverse audience groups and coworkers
Basic computer and writing skills
