Loan Underwriter

SECU is a State Employees Credit Union that believes in the philosophy of 'People Helping People'. They are seeking a Loan Underwriter to review and approve loans, provide guidance to lending personnel, and ensure compliance with lending policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Comprehensive underwriting of HELOC files and Mortgage files
Document outstanding conditions to the loan processing team
Document closing stipulations to the loan closing team
Assist the Real Estate Team Leader maintaining procedures, manuals, checklists, and resources as delegated
Train and mentor other employees as needed
Assist branch personnel with real estate questions and concerns
Intermediate training/exposure to all Loan Origination Systems
Perform reviews and verifications of documents (credit reports, sales contracts, flood certificates, income documents, insurance documents, asset statements, appraisals, title reports, etc.)
Willingness to assist in all areas of operation as needed
Accept other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Required

Minimum of one (1) year in Mortgage Lending (Branch or Operations) or equivalent experience and at least six (6) months in current position (promotion or lateral)
Must have completed the Lending Certification Courses and Exam
Basic understanding of MCC and FHLBA programs
Have basic knowledge of MAP program and SECU*RE as it relates to underwriting
Must meet department production and quality standards
Maintain knowledge of real estate lending products, policies, and guidelines
Maintain knowledge of secondary market guidelines (FNMA/FHLMC)
Meets compliance and regulatory standards in terms of loan processing and underwriting
Demonstrate the ability to perform comprehensive underwriting/review of both HELOC and First Mortgage files assigned by management to ensure documentation is obtained and verified in accordance with Credit Union policy and guidelines
Must be organized and detail oriented
Must possess highest level of integrity and objectivity
Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, problem solving ability, and critical thinking skills
Must understand and be dedicated to the Credit Union philosophy and work ethic
Must be able to cooperate and collaborate with co-workers and others
Must adhere to the work schedule and attendance policies established by the Credit Union
Must be able to speak and write English fluently

Preferred

Four-year degree, CCUE certification, or associate degree via the NC-CTP preferred
