Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (Customer Support)

The position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information & Technology (OIT). As the first level supervisor, the incumbent exercises full supervisory, technical, and administrative responsibilities for planning, developing, implementing, executing, and evaluating the Information Technology (IT) Program.

Responsibilities

Oversees the daily operation of the unit, ensures that agency policies and priorities are being followed
Develops performance standards; and evaluates work performance of subordinates
Develops methods to monitor and measure risk compliance, and assurance efforts
Identifies requirements, plans for, organizes, and distributes authorized personnel resources
Provides ongoing optimization and problem-solving support
Provide recommendations for possible improvements and upgrades
Identifies and provides training needs
Diagnose and resolve customer reported system incidents, problems, and events
Prepares and presents justification for organization structure, manpower, and personnel requirements
Ensures development of organizational work plans, short and long range schedules, priorities, work assignments and position structures to effectively, efficiently, and economically carry out the work of the organization

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who are current Federal employees, or have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks, must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement
For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11
Basic Requirements Experience: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate
For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the five competencies listed below
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations
Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service
Specialized experience is defined as: Possess IT experience and have detailed background with extensive experience in operations, supervision, and management of IT delivery systems and equipment
