Responsibilities
Performs professional mechanical engineering work in support of major mechanical systems and support programs for a weapon system
Employs scientific and engineering principles to design, develop, test, evaluate, and/or determine maintenance requirements
Performs analysis and uses systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable approaches to implement, develop, and document projects or tasks
Performs project/program management responsibilities to determine the business and technical need of customers

Position may require an appropriate security clearance
Employee must maintain current certifications
Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays

Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate driver's license may be required for the position
This position has been designated as a Non-Critical Acquisition Position, Category Test and Evaluation, Level 2 -Practitioner, and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP)
The selectee must meet or be capable of achieving the APDP certification as designated on the position description within the defined grace period for that certification level after assignment
This position also requires employee to engage in acquisition continuous learning activities achieving 80 Continuous Learning points every 24 months
This is a TDP (Testing Designated Position). Applicant/incumbent will be subject to pre-employment and random Drug Testing as a condition of employment
Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) by military or commercial aircraft approximately 20 days per year
Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics
Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering
Professional registration or licensure -- Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico
Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico
Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance
Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in other pay systems
Specialized Experience with work concerning the design, development, commission, manufacture, operation, testing, modification, maintenance, and disposal of mechanical devices and systems, their equipment, and/or components
Knowledge of professional mechanical engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to project development and execution
Knowledge of aircraft ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of aircraft systems
Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management: standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures, and other engineering disciplines
Skill in preparing design concepts, formulating working drawings, expressing proposals, and establishing requirements for technical objectives and characteristics
Ability to communicate concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies
Ability to prepare design concepts, convey ideas, and formulate working drawings using computer aided design and drafting programs and/or project management/scheduling software programs
