N.C. State Fair Public Relations Intern

The N.C. Department of Administration is responsible for managing various state government operations. The Public Relations Intern will assist in promoting the N.C. State Fair by writing news releases, coordinating advertising, and creating content for social media, gaining hands-on experience in a real-world setting.

Responsibilities

The intern will be part of the public relations team responsible for promoting the largest event in the state that draws in 1 million annually
The intern will write news releases, speeches and blogs, and will coordinate the purchase of advertising in high school newspapers, sports programs and school-related outlets
Will work within a budget to advertise State Fair with high school students
Other duties include press releases, blogs, speeches, research, event organization and assisting with social media content
Intern will create real-world portfolio pieces and gain hands-on experience as part of a Public Relations team
Intern would be involved in all aspects of planning and promoting the N.C. State Fair

Required

An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college, university, law school, community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state
Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Applicant must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years old by January 1, 2026
Applicants must be continuing their education in the fall following their participation in the program
To qualify for a law internship, applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the beginning of the internship, unless other majors are listed
Students having previously held paid internships with this program are not eligible to apply
Applicants must be willing and able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship
Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment
Candidate would have strong writing skills and knowledge of AP style
Intern will need strong organizational skills to keep projects on time and organized
Intern should enjoy working with a team
