Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on passenger SUVs through 1-ton HD trucks (Chevrolet, Ford, Jeep)
Service and repair fire vehicles, heavy fire apparatus, emergency equipment, and light-to-heavy trucks (up to Class 8)
Identify, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, diesel/gas engine, and A/C systems
Determine required corrective actions, research and source optimal parts, initiate procurement, and complete repairs independently once parts arrive
Repair, adjust, overhaul, and replace major assemblies and subassemblies, including powertrains, drivetrains, electrical, HVAC, hydraulic, fuel, emissions, brake, steering, pumping, suction, agitator, and traction systems
Remove, disassemble, and service gasoline and diesel engines and related components
Repair components by replacing worn or damaged parts; reassemble, adjust, and test units to verify proper operation
Conduct preventive and special maintenance inspections, using technical manuals to follow manufacturer maintenance schedules
Accurately document all maintenance actions on required forms; use computer systems to research and identify correct replacement parts
Prepare surplus vehicles for target-range use by removing fluids and materials (training provided)
Perform fuel distribution duties, including receiving/transferring fuel, verifying documentation, checking fuel quality and levels, and reconciling tank readings
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps and pumping systems (training provided)
Follow all safety standards, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials
Qualification
Required
1+ years of experience as an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) OR 5+ years as a vehicle mechanic with the ability to obtain EVT certification. EVT Level I must be obtained within the first year; Level II and III must be obtained within three years
Working knowledge of diagnostic scanners, injection systems, and fuel injectors
U.S. citizen or naturalized citizen with the ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Valid Florida driver's license (must be maintained throughout employment)
Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and physical exam
Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain issues, solutions, and recommended repair approaches
Adequate written communication skills to compose clear emails and complete inspection, training, and company-required forms
Preferred
Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification
Experience with MIG welding, oxyacetylene torch operation, and plasma cutting
Familiarity with Air Force technical orders and commercial maintenance manuals
Prior experience using the Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS)
Possession of a Class B CDL
Knowledge of DoD—particularly U.S. Air Force—regulations, processes, and organizational culture
Understanding of NFPA standards and DOT compliance requirements
